Which tram from Amsterdam Centraal to hotel near Muntplein?

Which tram from Amsterdam Centraal to hotel near Muntplein?
We're staying at Hotel Residence Le Coin (Nieuwe Doelenstraat 5). Google transit directions say to take either tram 2 or 5 or 1 and get off at Koningsplein. But in looking at the transit map it seems like it would make more sense to take tram 4 or 9 or 16 or 24 all of which stop at Muntplein. Is there some reason not to do that?

Well, since I've never been there I wouldn't know. When I arrive in an unfamiliar city after an overnight flight, I like to have some idea of where I'm going.

Having got your OV chipkaart from the GVB across the road from Centraal Station you can get Tram 4, 9, 16, 24 to Muntplein, and 2 minutes walk the rest. Get whichever one of these is waiting. It takes about 15 minutes to Munt. The driver will announce the stops.

I was wondering about the OV chipkaart too. We'll only be there a few days and I suspect we'll mostly walk other than when we're arriving and departing with luggage in tow. Am I understanding correctly that the OV chipkaart costs 7.50 euro and then I have to put money on it to use it? Can we buy individual tickets on the tram instead?

tickets on the tram will, if still sold, cost a whole lot more than the 7.50 euros which I would assume you get back when you turn the OV chipkaart in (or save it and give to someone else going to Amsterdam in the future.
In any case do not just board the tram without a ticket unless you are sure tickets are sold on the tram and the honor system is used and there are frequent enough spot check and hefty fines for folks not having tickets.
I have been going to Amsterdam every year since 1969 and every tram I have ever been on either the driver or someone in a ticket booth in the rear or middle sells tickets - but with the new OV chipkaart I suspect that no locals will be buying tickets and tickets sold in the tram may be a thing of the past.
Like Hetismij says stop by the GVB - municipal transports office opposite Centraal Station and ask any question and buy your tram tickets or OV card there - it used to be a Strippenkaart would offer multiple trams rides that could be shared for at least half the price tickets were sold on the tram - would assume this is now taken over by OV card.

http://www.gvb.nl/english/travellers...whichcard.aspx tells you all about them. If you are sticking to Amsterdam then buy one of the GVB cards that is valid for 24 or 48 hours. ou can uy the 24 hour card on the tram - one per person sadly not like the old strippenkaart.
If you want to take buses outside of Amsterdam then you need the anonymous card.

I would think the one hour cards mentioned on the site hetismij gives would be the best deal for the average tourist staying in such a well located hotel that is a short walk from nearly every major site in Amsterdam - the museums included - a 24-hour card at 7 euros would be for the average tourist in your situation a waste of money - the site does not say or I cannot find it what a one-hour card costs but if like earlier versions it may be 1.5 euros - maning you'd have to ride 5 times to make it pay off - really the average person will take no more than two and perhaps no trams if they are staying where you are.
