Which side of the Rhine to drive on?

Driving from Munich to Beilstein, with a stop at Burg Eltz. It appears that there is a road on either side of the Rhine. Which side would be more scenic and offer more cool little towns to stop at if we wanted to? Thank you for your continued help!

I would be interested in this as well as we will be in the area in the fall. We will be on bikes, but it looks from the maps that there are ferries that cross the river various places where you could go back and forth. I'm not sure if they are all car ferries or pedestrian ferries. Anyone have any insight?

The west bank, i.e., the left bank downriver. From there you see the Lorelei and it also has the more picturesque towns.

The west bank does have the most interesting towns for stopping in. But you can also ferry across in several spots, like St. Goar and Boppard, to glimpse the gorge from the other side, too.

the road on the east bank may be better for bikes as it's less traveled than the more major highway on the west bank. Both roads have bike paths along them however and like said there are some ferries for cars and more ferries just for pedestrians and bikes so easy to flip back and forth. K-D boats also take bikes.

Both sides are scenic, and both offer enough opportunities to stop. The Eastern side will be less crowded. I think I'd choose the Eastern side in the morning, and the Western side in the afternoon.
