Which Paris arrondissement or neighborhood for apartment?
We are planning a week in Paris the first of November. We have found a nice apt in the 1st arr. near the Louvre, but most posters seem to prefer the 5th, 6th, or 7th. Can anyone give info about the 1st? The apt is on Saint Honore "around the corner from the Louvre".
Which of the 4 areas would you choose for a first visit?
Thanks!

I have stayed in 3 out 4 you cited; 5,6,and 7th Arrondisement. I prefer the 6, but if the price is right, I would not pass an apartment in the 1st at all!The Paris Metro makes it all so accessible anyway. The factor here, however, is Nov timeframe; limited daylight and more rainy days. No matter where you stay, make sure you stay close to a metro station. I think you ought to give the apt a go. Have fun!!

Have you perhaps booked the apartment at 150 rue Saint Honore'? If so, I would be interested in your experience with it when you return. We are booked there for next spring. It sounds like an excellent location but there is nothing like a report from someone who has been there to validate the choice.
Thanks,
Jim

I haven’t rented an apartment in the 1st, but I have stayed there many times and I love it! It’s a great location for shopping, easy walking distance to all major tourists sites and access to the Metro.
Personally, I prefer the 1st over the 5th-7th (stayed in all of them), but I am in the minority here. I also like the 14th & 16th – longer walk to the tourist sites, but wonderful neighborhoods, in completely different ways.
If you found a perfect place in the 1st - on Saint Honore "around the corner from the Louvre", sounds about as perfect as it can get for me - then I say go for it! You are within 10 minutes walk from the Left Bank anyway.

I also prefer 1st arr. and always look for hotels / apartment near Louvre. You are there in the middle of every thing, near two metro stations and you can walk to Louvre, Notre Dame, Orsay, Place de Concorde, etc.
