Which hotel in Valletta?
My cousin and I will be in Malta in October and so far we are planning to stay in Valletta because of comments regarding easy bus travel, but which hotel? Any recent experiences with Hotel Castille, Hotel Osborne or the British Hotel?
Also, I'd like your opinion on using public transit versus organized day trips in Malta.
Thanks,
Dana

I was in Malta 3 yrs ago but on a tour and we stayed in Sliema. If I went on my own I'd definitely stay in Valletta. The bus transport is just outside the gate entrance into Valletta so super easy to pick up. You can go all over Malta; just be aware of when busses return.
I can't comment on a hotel since we stayed in a large tourist hotel in Sliema which is not the prettiest area, albeit very nice and safe.
Regarding organized day tours, they're really nice if you what to get educational info. If you're there long enough, do take a day/night trip to Gozo. Personally, I think you'd be well off to purchase an overnight trip with a guide. Otherwise, you'll be looking for a bus to pick up and wasting time. There are limo tours which I thought were well priced for an 8 hr. day.

Thanks Nancy. Most of the Gozo tours I see on the internet seem to be only for one day, not overnight. Where did you hear about them?
Any others with input regarding recent stays at those hotels?

I liked the Castille, & there is a
casual restaurant in 'cellar'. It is
a easy short walk to cheap public transport. The buses havae definitely
been around for a while.
There's a slideshow I believe called
'the Malta experience' which is a good
overview (in Valletta).

Hi, dana48: Since my tour offered the overnight w/guide I don't know how to find a guide while in Gozo. Prior to deciding to take the tour offered by my tour company I had checked out how to see Gozo on our own. And, like you, I found day trip companies. I decided that, with the overnight, the tour offered a good price.
I'm wondering if these companies would also supply guides while in Gozo. But, probably too expensive. It was only in my readings on the website that I thought doing a daytrip on your own would entail a lot of waiting for a bus, etc.
