I may not die - but I could get infested without symptoms and pass it on to my 100 year old FIL who is in an assisted living facility and is diabetic. And then he could pass it on to others at the facility.

Not dying is a rather low bar. Covid is not the flu. Completely healthy people can and do die, of course at a lower rate than the infirm or elderly. But the disease does not leave the survivors as they were before. There can be permanent partial loss of lung function and kidney function, strokes and other consequences of clotting disorders, not to mention enormous medical bills in some of the backwards countries such as the US. Plus it is no small matter to be too sick to leave a bed for a week before hospitalization and a week in ICU plus a month or two of recovering strength. Oh, and about a third of patients lose all sense of taste and smell for up to three months.

It's not the flu. But those who say it is know this. Don't believe the trolls.

Stu and AJP are spot on, don’t know why this seems hard to comprehend. I have immediate family on three continents I haven’t seen in almost a year, my mil passed away last month and DH couldn’t even be there for her funeral. But there are any number of others with similar stories, for the most part we’re all being patient and monitoring the situation.

Like many of you I too had to cancel trips planned for earlier this year and can’t wait to be able to travel again. But let’s act sensibly and spare a thought for those who could be adversely impacted by our careless actions.
