Hi, which cinque terre village should we stay in?

Which property was your favorite?

We want a very scenic view and want to enjoy our anniversary. Only going to be there for 2 nights.

I should add that on the day of our departure we are headed from CT to pisa for a pit stop and then flying out from PISA back to the USA. I know some of the twons have direct trains to pisa centrale to avoid stopping at la spezia. Obviously, this is a small point.

How do we know?
Are you age 25 and in training for a marathon or are you 73 and have bad knees? I am the latter and would pick Monterosso as the town---Look at the Villa Steno.

We loved Vernazza but you have to be able to do stairs to stay there. The restaurants were awesome and the views great. No cars are allowed which was a plus for us.

We stayed in La Mala while there and loved it, a bit pricey, but we were on our honeymoon.

Since we will be going to the CT next Sept. I always read the forums. We thought that we were going to stay in Vernazza at LaMala but Villa Steno looks nice also. However my husband has bad knees. Which one would be better? I think all of CT has hills. We have been to CT before and stayed in Manorola. My husband can climb steps but we do need to consider this point. Any thoughts out there?

I agree with Bob. It's very easy to get around in Monterosso and the Villa Steno was very nice with terrific views. It is not elegant, if that's what you are looking for, but it is very reasonably priced and the owners are great. I would definitely stay there again.

I have been to the CT (I adore it!) 3 times and decided to switch it up the last time. We stayed in Portovenere just south. It was awesome with museums, very picturesque church built into the rock, beautiful cemetery, incredible restaurants even Lord Byrons Cove and the Island of Palmaria (famous for gold & black marble).

We stayed in Manarola and loved it! It seemed less touristy than the other villages. We had a huge deck overlooking the sea - gorgeous! If you do a search for Bikerscott you will find out trip report from this May with all the details of our trip.

We are 27 and 26, and healthy. Not avid hikers but not limited by physical activity.

How is Riomaggiore? No one has mentioned it.

It is not overly important which town you stay in since they are about 2 minutes apart by train and the trains run late. Unless, of course, you have mobility issues as mentioned above. Personally I would chose Vernazza, Manarola, or Riomaggiore first. I found Corniglia to sedate (but some people love it) and Monterosso to resorty, less character than the others.

We enjoyed Hotel Monterosso in Monterosso.

I went with my BF in July (both in our late 20s) and we were happy we stayed in Monterosso. It was more 'resorty' than the other towns, but there was a bit of nightlife and great restaurants. The hotel was nice and we had a pretty balcony overlooking the town. The front desk was helpful with booking dinner reservations. I have a trip report up here if you look on my name.

Ditto above - it's not really important where you stay, just make sure you have a/c if it's the summer!

We prefer Monterosso as well. There is a bigger choice of restaurants and bars. We've stayed at Villa Steno, too, and would recommend it. Their rooms overlooking the town and the ocean are gorgeous - but not luxurious, except for the views. (Maybe all of the rooms overlook the town - I don't remember.)
