Which area to stay in Venice?

Hi. I'm spending 3 days in Venice and wondered which area is the best to stay in to do all the sightseeing. Also, what hotels do you recommend in the $100 range?

I like the Dorsoduro area...quiet and a quick walk from almost anywhere. There's a nice wee hotel called Locanda Fiorita that I liked very much.

Another vote for Dorsoduro. My first trip to Venice, I stayed in Fiorita, too, and liked the location and the staff very much. So, stayed there again two years later. For the upcoming visit, I'm staying at the Hotel Galleria, which is right near the Accademia. http://www.hotelgalleria.it/indexbri.htm

Both are below the US$100 mark. If you do a search, there are several older threads that have lengthy lists of hotel recommendations in all budget ranges.

Have a wonderful vacation!

Heather - saw your post and had to let you know that I too stayed at the Hotel Galleria in Academia last October. It was absolutely lovely and in a wonderful location. There are several rooms that have a view of the Grand Canal but be careful if you get one of these rooms. The Academia bridge and vaparetto stop is right in front of the hotel and it's a little noisy at night. I really enjoyed the Academia location -a quick walk across the bridge to San Marco.
Have a great return trip Heather!
Amy

Hi, Amy! Thanks for the feedback ... I'm really excited to try a new hotel. And, the final couple of weeks to wait is just driving me crazy. I posted on another thread that "patience is a virtue", but I'm just not feeling all that virtuous right now. ;-)
