My question is about 2-bedroom apts. and am wondering specifically about #217, #189 and #116 as advertised in the vacationinparis.com website. They seem to have a good reputation.
We were going to rent vrbo90955 for 5 nights in Oct and Ferida wrote asking for the entire amt upon booking so we weren't willing to do that 8 months before a trip. I thought deposit was usually no more than 1/2 the amt. Does anyone have any advice about what the norm is regarding deposit. She said that if cancelled prior to 8 wks you get 1/2 back and after 8 wks, nothing back.

Micah3 - I thought finding an apartment was terribly difficult because of so many choices. I went with the advice of the people on this board as they have a lot of experience. We are renting through Thierry at parisbestlodge and so far he has been very helpful. I looked at the vrbo's as well. It might be that different owners have different ways of renting their apartments and asking for their down payment. You might want to start a new thread of your own as this one is pretty old and long. Good luck.

guenmai - We got on Air France through NW frequent flyer miles. Which airline do you prefer to fly? Thanks for the info on the cemetery. I'm sure we will find your transportation advice especially helpful once we arrive. I have never really used public transport before - other than the high speed train in Taiwan and a train in Fukuoka. Have never had to change lines, etc. So this will be an interesting change for me. I guess if we get on a wrong bus or metro, we will just see something we hadn't planned on seeing!

yellowrose, I flew on Air France two years ago and just booked a flight with them for May. I have flown on many airlines and thought AF was great--good food, free wine, good service.
Guenmai, I've enjoyed reading all your helpful hints. We just booked #18 through VIP for the first part of our trip. There are 3 of us and we wanted 2 BRs. We wanted to divide our time between left and right banks. At the end of our trip we wanted #122 but it wasn't available so we're staying Hotel des Grands Hommes.

Yellowrose- It depends on where I'm flying from. If I'm up in Copenhagen, where I lived for 20-plus summers, then I take SAS to Paris. I love SAS. I also take them to Europe whenever I can.
From home, L.A., I've taken United, Delta, and a few other ones that I can't really remember. It's been so many years. I even used to fly to the east coast and take SAS from there. Happy Travels!

Louise-Start a new thread. We don't want to hijack Yellowrose's thread. But VIP is very good and requires low deposits. I only paid a $300. deposit for #122, which was deducted from the total for the week. I refuse to dish out those high deposits that some are asking. I have elderly parents, late 80s, and never know what might happen. Possibly losing $300, is one thing, losing more is another. Happy Travels!

Guenmai - I have never had one of those faces pop up! Kind of cute - but not always in an appropriate spot. Thanks for the cemetery information. I studied the public transportation map on my lunch hour today. I found out how to get to Versailles. It doesn't seem to be that far from town. I thought it was a couple of hours away and it looks a lot closer than that.
Louisa thanks for the info on Air France. Living near MSP, we just always seem to end up on NWA as this is one of their hubs. Am looking forward to a different airline.

dd is excited but caught up with school and other activities that she barely has time to breathe.
the best part, is that the country she is studying in world history right now, is france and her teacher will also be in paris the same time as we are.
i am the one making the meticulous plans and getting antsy as i go along.

yellowrose477, I just want to thank you (and everyone else who helped with this thread) for starting something that turned out to be a magnet for such great information!
I'll be staying at the "CrazyView" apartment through Paris Best Lodge and I, like you, have so far been very impressed with Thierre! I can't believe how quickly he e-mail me back!
Anyway, good luck with your trip. And Happy Anniversary!
p.s. I'm 26 and I don't think you're too old to wear jeans. Just make 'em classy! ;-)

SmileDarling - I almost booked Crazy View. Then I worried about being up so high - but then we ended up on a 3rd floor, which I think is an American 4th floor anyway. Even though we are in our 50's we are in good physical shape and it should not be a problem. Figure I will be able to eat more and will work it off. You will have to let me know if the view was worth the climb! There really is so much good information in this thread. I am feeling so much more comfortable than when I first started planning. When are you going to Paris? Is this your first trip there? Patti P.S. I got some new jeans!!

abranz - Your daughter should get extra credit for being in France! When my daughter was taking Japanese we went to Japan and brought the Japanese teacher back a bunch of stuff that she wanted. Helped with the grade. Will you meet up with the teacher while you are there? What a great 16th birthday present! Patti

patti,
i wish dd could get extra credit but as a senior in h.s., she is already taking all a.p. or honours classes.
she is not much of a history buff but has a great relationship with her teacher.
he is gay and she is an activist - considers herself an ally for the fight for gay rights!
so i guess in that way, she is already getting extra points.
lol.
