Where would you stay for a long vacation in Italy?

You have received a lot of good suggetions by people that are reqular contributors to the Italy Forum. I agree with spliting the 6 weeks into pieces. I also agree with Zeppole's suggestion of visitng the Riviera. My wife and I spent a week along the Riviera. I spent a week last September in an appartment in Rapallo and explored the Riviera de Levante, Cinque Terre and the surounding area. Food, sun and sea. I am looking forward to a return visit.
