Where would be a good stopover on the Adriatic coast driving from Roma to Venice?
G'day all!
Planning continues and we are considering driving from Rome to Venice via the Adriatic coast, having already visited Florence.
Can anyone suggest a beautiful, interesting, historic, or amazing place not to be missed along that stretch of coast?
This will be next April/May.
Thanks
Rosie

Agree completely. Ravenna is a little touristed jewel with beaches and some of the most important mosaics from the Byzantine period anywhere in the world-the Basilica of San Vitale particularly, which was built somewhere in 500 AD.
Also, the father of the Italian language, Dante, is buried here, and you can visit his tomb and a Dante museum closeby (Dante was exiled from his home Florence, and never allowed to return).
There are lots of designer and other artisan shops here, good restaurants in their main area around Piazza del Populo-the place to hang out and have a coffee- or you can go to the beach area and have a meal in one of the waterfront restaurants. Definitely worth it to spend some time here.

Hi RosieinOZ, I read your thread and immediately thought Ravenna. So Ira, GirlTravel and I are all in agreement!
Ravenna is a wonderful spot to stay in on the way to Venice. I hope you enjoy it as much as I always have.
