Where to travel on 3 day weekends while abroad?

I'm going abroad to London next semester from early January until late April. I'll have 3 day weekends while I'm there and would like to travel as much as possible. Where would you recommend going to get the most out of my time abroad? I've already been to Paris, Rome, and Madrid. Thanks for the help.

Amsterdam is perfect for a 3-day weekend from London. There are inexpensive flights available, it doesn't take long to get there, and there's the perfect amount of things to see over the course of 3 days. Highlights include the Van Gogh museum and the Anne Frank House.

Don't forget Lisbon, in Portugal, it's quite a short flight from London, and also Copenhagen, Denmark. Also Vigo (Santiago de Compostela) and Bilbao ( Guggenheim), in Spain, are quite close.

Regards,

S

Check the destinations of cheap airlines like Easyjet: Nice, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Dublin, Geneva ... all within 1-3 hours flight.

Well, most places in Europe are within your reach from London. Easy and cheap. Just check where for example Buzzair flies, and book at the spur of of the moment. Why not book different places? One weekend in Helsinki, one in Barcelona. One weekend in Prague, one in Copenhagen. One in Edinburg, one in Budapest. And so on.

Hi Tiff,

You're lucky; there are terrific places you can get to quickly and cheaply from London, especially on the newer, no-frills airlines like Ryan Air, Easyjet, and Go.

I have flown Go, and I'm still on the e-mailing list. Today, for example, I received this promotion:

Fly from London Stansted to:
• From £19 single, tax inc - Bologna, Milan and Naples
• From £19 single, tax inc - Rome and Venice
• From £19 single, tax inc - Barcelona, Bilbao and Malaga
• From £19 single, tax inc - Faro and Nice

I would love to go back to Lisbon, Jerez, or Bologna--all places that airlines like these fly to for very little money. Have fun!

Don't neglect the destination within the UK, Dublin, Edinburough, Aberdeen, Wales. Check out the web for UK version of Priceline.com (I forget what its called, but I do recall it had great 3-day getaways available on a sort of highest bid system. I saw a terrific 3 day Dublin hotel package with 2 dinners thrown in for what my husband and I had just paid for one night in same place!)
