To the original question, I agree that you will probably do best in cities or large towns. Small villages will likely be a challenge. One suggestion -- when we took my 80+ year old uncle on vacation, we rented a small wheel chair which helped considerably. He was quite happy being pushed around since he had a lot of trouble walking after his hip replacement and we were all able to see a lot more at the faster pace made possible by the wheelchair (rather than walking slowly and for short distances at his pace). It even had the benefit of getting us to the front of the line on a few occasions.
