We stayed in Staufen last May and really enjoyed it, it is a beautiful little village with several restaurants, at least three pizzeria's, several coffee/sweets shops as well as a supermarket and a great butcher shop which sells incredible ready cooked meals (schnitzel dishes, pork dishes, saurkraut, and veggie and potato dishes). The castle ruins on the top of a vineyard hillside is a spectular view and can be reached with an easy 10 minute walk thru the vineyards. We stayed in a great apartment at the foot of the castle which is a three minute walk into town. Check out www.touristik-staufen.de for a list of hotels, apartments, B&B's and restaurants. Also an easy drive into Freiburg for a day trip.

Thank you, Mike, for your additional information on Staufen. We're really looking forward to eating and drinking our way through the Black Forest. And I always like to check out the supermarkets when I'm travelling in Europe. It's interesting to see the different options and varieties available, expecially cookies and snacks.
