Where to stay in Rome???

I'm trying to book a hotel in Rome for 3 nights, 4 people, and I'm not certain which parts of the city are best to stay in? I hear the district around the Termini isn't good - but other than that, I haven't heard much else. If anyone can provide any information - I would very much appreciate it!! Thanks!

We were there a couple of months ago and stayed at this B&B called "Monte del gallo". You may find information at www.montedelgallo.com

It is located 3 (long) blocks away from the Vatican, in a residential neighborhood. They provide very good service at very reasonable prices. (We paid 170 thousand lire (around US$80) for a very nice room for 2 people with private bath.

I spent one night in a hotel near the train station 2 years ago right before Christmas before embarking on a cruise. I wouldn't hesitate to stay around there again. We could not walk distances because of my late husband's physical situation, so we just walked to the bus station and took the cheap city tour. We saw the major attractions and if we'd had more time we would have returned to investigate some of them. Have fun!

Do some research on Trastevere, literally "across the Tiber".

We've stayed at the Alimandi Hotel across from the Museum entrance for the Vatican. They pick you up at the airport if you want. We like the family and the service. Marilyn

I wouldn't stay by the Termini. It didn't seem very safe at night...at the people at my hotel told us to be careful in that area at night.

I stayed at the Hotel Trevi by the Trevi Fountain. Small rooms but nice and helpfule staff...Gianfranco! You can also stay by the Ancient Rome...that was a very touristy area and seemed safe.

Email of you have any other questions. Also, I just posted a summary message today...so you can get more info. there.
