Where to Stay in Paris and London

I am taking my first trip to London in Feb., 2005. I am going with my husband and 3 kids ages 12, 15, and 18. We are looking to rent a flat and I am not sure what area of London would be good for us. I know Paris fairly well and love staying in the 6th arr. I also enjoy the Latin Quarter. Is there an area of London that is similar to these areas of Paris that we would equally enjoy? Thanks in advance for your help.

Don't compare the two cities, if you want somewhere like Paris then just stay in Paris.

I have never rented a flat in London but I realy enjoy staying in the Kensington High Street area. It is easy to tube to most tourist stops. I have walked around in the residential areas and it is beautiful to me. I often think of what it would be like to have my own flat there.

Have a wonderful family trip. I am sure some other Fodorites with decent, pleasant replies will respond. Sorry I don't know of a specific flat.

Convent Garden in London has much of the feel of the Left Bank in Paris in and there are apartments that Fodors parents have liked near Goodge Street and Charing Cross stations. I shall send you detail if you ask. I afraid that the Great Fire of London in 1666 took away our medieval heart area, which is now the business area, the City, and dead at night and weekends.

Welcome to London

I was in London last summer, and found the Chelsea area a wonderful, active, beautiful neighborhood, similar to Greenwich village and the Left Bank. It was full of boutiques and cafes and restaurants. It was very youth oriented. If you prefer a more Right Bank ,upscale area, then I would reccommend the Mayfair area.
