Where to stay in Madrid

Hello. We will be traveling to Spain for the first time next year. Already researching!
We will be flying out of Madrid, having been to Barcelona, Valencia (?), Granada, Sevilla, and Cordoba. (unsure about Valencia)
Was wondering where to stay in Madrid for probably 4 nights. We are a couple in our 70’s…..don’t need super fancy….like to walk, eat tasty food, and get the feel of a city. Like comfy beds😊
Would love to know your favorite hotels, areas to stay.
Thanks so much.

My Madrid trip centered on seeing the three big art museums, travelcat. This hotel was perfect for that. The staff and the breakfasts were excellent.

NH Paseo del Prado
Plaza Cánovas del Castillo, 4. 28014 Madrid??

Pre-covid and -Uber, buses and taxis were right out front. Others can get you closer to the center.

We stayed at Hostal Persal, budget friendly and centrally located. Recommended.

We loved staying at The Principal. The hotel has a modern interior inside an antique building and is set just off the Gran Via, very convenient. We could walk easily to Retiro Park and the major art museums

We just booked a nice Airbnb for four nights in September right in the heart of Madrid, steps away from the Plaza Mayor and the oldest restaurant in the world. And for a great price too of around $100 CAD per night. There is so much available it is hard to chose but I am betting we made a good choice.

We have visited Madrid numerous times
If you stay in the popular area of Sol and PM, if you can, make time to visit beautiful, elegant Salamanca neighborhood, next to park Retiro. It is an upscale area with leafy street, galleries, expensive stores , good restaurants. etc. It will give you a glimpse
into a different Madrid .

We stayed in the Hotel Sardinaro Madrid for a week in October 2019. Excellent service, the metro station was right across the street but taxis were also available. Walking distance to Casa Dani and many other restaurants.

Highly recommend the Sorolla Museum (it's in the artist's home) and the Lazaro Galdiano Museum, also in his home but quite a different type of house! We loved Madrid!

We stayed at the Mercure Madrid Centro, Calle Lope de Vega 49. It was a 5-10 minute walk to the Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen Museums. Within walking distance of Retiro Park, and a block away from Calle de Jesus with all its tapas restaurants. It's a modern hotel; our room size was adequate and the bathroom was large. Our room had hardwood floors which I prefer to wall to wall carpeting. The hotel has an excellent breakfast buffet. At the time, in 2017, the cost for the buffet was 12 euros.

We stayed at the Hotel Preciados which is very centrally located. I think we opted for one of the cheaper rooms which was nothing special, but it was fine. The breakfast, however, was a fantastic spread and we loved the convenience of the location. There are lots of restaurants and shops nearby but we weren't bothered by any outside noise.
