Where to Stay in London...

My husband and I are 30-something travelers. We've been to Paris, Amsterdam, Rome and Venice so far, and we are leaving for London on Feb. 28th. We are having a heck of a time trying to find a place to stay. Our budget would be $120/night or so.
Here is the criteria:
1. Clean Clean Clean!
2. En suite bathroom
3. Updated decor - nothing fancy, just not shabby and dated
4. Walking distance to sights or tube station

We know the rooms will be small, and that doesn't matter. We stayed at the Eurostars International Palace for the same price in Rome and loved it, so something similar to that in London would be awesome. Can someone help with a suggestion? Is it possible that London is just that much more expensive than Rome? Anything we find in that price range turns out to be a nightmare when we look on TripAdvisor! Thanks in advance!!

Have you checked Hotwire? Thanks to the encouragement and assistance of posters here, I recently booked a great deal in London for my son's and my June trip. I'm guessing that you'd be able to find something that meets your criteria.

With only a week left until your arrival, I would look at lastminute.com and see what's in your price range.

Your price is about £83/night. Unfortunately, London hotels are notorously expensive in comparision w/other countries.

Have your tried Priceline?

Check www.londontown.com. I put in your date and found the Copthorne Tara fro 64 GBP and Millennium Bailey's for 79 GBP. Bailey's is close to Harrods, the V&A, National history museums and loads for cafe and shops. It's directly across the street from Gloucester Rd tube station

I have stayed at the Copthorne Tara and would do so again (this was 2001, I believe, so no idea what the intervening years have brought but it was nice then). It's a short walk to Kensington High Street and the tube. Nice area.

Try the Morgan Hotel in Bloomsbury, too. It is walking distance to Covent Garden, Soho... (and if you are me.. Buckingham Palace.. St. Paul's... London Eye... you get the picture).

We used londontown.com on our last two trips to London. You book through them but you do not pay them. You pay the hotel directly when you check out. They do have some good rates for some nice London hotels.

I've stayed at the Copthorne a couple of times in the last five years, and won it on PL for a week next month for $65/night. It's not fancy, but perfectly adequate and it's very close to the Kensington High Street station. Very quick walk to Hyde and Holland parks and easy walking distance of the V&A, Science, and Natural History museums.

Londontown or laterooms are definite options. But for real budget trips - Priceline and Hotwire are brilliant for London.

Check out http://www.biddingfortravel.com or http://www.betterbidding.com for help.

PL will get you a 4 star place for less than $100 . . . . .
