Where to Stay in Dublin?

Can anyone recommend a nice, moderately priced hotel in Dublin for a long weekend in February. The six of us are all in our late thirties, early forties, and we're looking for something homey, elegant, and with a good pub.

i would reccomend the Burlington hotel. It is not what I would call small or intimate, but the rooms are nicely sized, and deorated well. It is moderately priced, close to St. Stephens Green, which is really the center of town. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel and the area has several local pubs as well. You really can't do better unless you are wanting a small inn type place with a local feel, the burlington is the place to stay and I'm sure they have website to check out!

Laura,

Which weekend in Feb are you planning to be in Dublin ? The Five Nations Rugby Cup will be on throughout Jan and Feb and into March and if you hit upon a weekend that one of the matches are on in Dublin then there are 2 things - 1. impossible to get a hotel room and 2. great fun and atmosphere in the city.

The Burlington is a nice good hotel but slightly out of the city centre. Hotel bars are not rated very higly by irish people - except for the Horseshoe Bar in the Shelbourne Hotel on Stephen's Green.

The Burtlington is part of the Jury/Doyle Hotel group and they have hotels nearer to the city centre as well - try this web site for more info'www.jurys.com. Alternatively try any of the following sites for more details on hotels and B&Bs
www.ireland.travel.ie
www.townandcountry.ie
www.hidden-ireland.com (not sure if they have any places in Dublin)
Here are links for some Dublin B&Bs
www.beourguest.ie
www.dublinn.com (Kilronan House)

In the expensive category are members of the Blue Book association - www.irelands-blue-book.ie

Hope this helps and get booking ASAP

Cathy
Thanks! We're going the weekend of February 9th through 12th, which is one week before the France v. Ireland game, which makes hotel space a little easier to come by. Somebody else suggested Wynn's Hotel in City Centre North -- ever heard of it?

Laura,
Check whether Wynns has been upgraded recently. It is not a hotel I would think of staying in despite the fact that it is very centrally located just off O'Connell Street but I think you could find a nicer B&B than it - just my impression from my days living in Dublin and using their public areas.
Try Cassidy's on Parnell Sq - a newer hotel and just at the top of OÇonnell Street. Have you contacted the Tourist Board to get a list of all hotels in the city - try the Dublin Tourism centre and they might be able to help,

Cathy

Laura
Stauntons on the Green is a grand guesthouse, but no pub. Great staff, lovely rooms, private garden on the southside of St. Stephens Green and an easy walk to pubs, restaurants, shopping and museums.
