Where to stay for Mont Saint-Michel

We have booked two nights at Auberge St. Pierre in May. We will get to Mont Saint- Michel at about 7:30 at night. We will be coming from Bayeux after our Hedgerow Tour with Overlord Tours. I am concerned about how we get to the island and where we park the car as well as getting all our luggage to the hotel. We will stay a full day and leave the next morning and drive to Le Mans, Chartes Cathedral and then stay for two nights at Versailles. Any advice?

I am actually asking for more specificity from someone who had actually gone through the process of parking their car and staying on the island as well as how difficult the process was. As of right now, we have not received any info from the Hotel.

No, there are no streets on which a car can drive on the Mont. The tiny car park for the disabled near the entrance can only be used at low tide. Naturally, taxis can drive all the way, but just to drop people off.

This was not easy to find on the hotel website but here is what it said:
The car park for Mont Saint Michel is located on the continent.
The car park P3 is reserved for the clients of the hotels of the Mont. To get to this car park, you follow the signs for MONT SAINT MICHEL - BUS/ DISABLE (not car) and then the sign indicating HOTELS INTRA MUROS.
To enter in this car park you will need an access code that you can have 24 hours before your arrival, you can obtain it by calling us or by e-mail.
The parking is charged: €11.70 for 24H (without exit).
A shuttle bus system will transport you to the Mont Saint Michel, the departure is located next to the parking area P1.
To truly enjoy the most of your stay, it is better to bring small luggage. The shuttle will drop you about 400 meters for the entrance to the village.
We are located on the right hand side of the main street.
For all arrivals between Midnight and 7:30 am, you have to call this number: 0033.(0)2.14.13.20.00 to ask for a shuttle to bring you to the Mont.

After reading all the responses I have decided to stay at Hôtel Gabriel. On our trip we will be staying in different types of places, a farm house outside of Bayeux, a castle near Amaillou to name a few.

Just to put my oar in,

I must warn you that if you visit the Mont - and of course as you know 'mont' means 'mountain' - it will be hard to avoid stairs and/or uphill/downhill slopes if you wish to see this site. The abbey itself will be a bit of a climb, something like 350 steps to the top, although you can take your time. Perhaps (collapsible) hiking poles or a (folding) cane would help?

I have to agree with Pal here - stay on the Mont if one likes, but especially if one has a car, one has other options for accommodation and one can still stroll the Mont in the evening.
We stayed at Hotel le Moulin de Ducey in, well, Ducey. : - )
I think it's now a Best Western. Ducey is a charming small town only about a 15 to 20 minute drive from the parking lots (I concede that we visited just before they started the shuttle system and so parked on the dike at low tide; I suppose one would have to add a few minutes on for either walking the dike to/from parking or getting the shuttle to the parking lots. Still doable though.)
The hotel rooms were comfortable enough but not especially romantic; what was, was getting a riverside room and falling asleep to the sound of water running through the old mill sluice gate (moulin means 'mill') just outside our window. So we were able to enjoy the Mont for an evening meal, take an evening stroll, and then drive to our very reasonable and comfortable hotel by the river. MSM was nice, but what we still talk about was how soundly we slept at that riverside hotel.

Sue_xx_yy (Sue is also my wife's name)thank you for the pictures and advice. We both already have a folding cane we take, and my wife has the collapsible hiking poles. We have been to Europe 3 times before and know there is alot of steps in castles and the like.
We have also been to China, now the Great Wall, thats some stairs. We can do stairs, we just take it slow and do some swearing under our breath.

Then you are well prepared and even well practiced with swearing! (I totally understand, my own husband insists I try to do him in every holiday so I can collect the insurance...)
I must correct something, it seems to walk in from the parking lots is further than I thought after I consulted Mr. Google - the latter says it is a 40 minute walk. The shuttle takes 10 to 12 minutes but people warn that one must often wait for one. As I said, we visited before the old dike was demolished and the parking/lot shuttle system started.
One thing still applies - visiting later in the day. People on tripadvisor report trying to avoid crowds by going early in the day - nope. We visited after 3 p.m and if tripadvisor is to believed, that is still the case.

Hello. If somebody read this : we will be in the Mount the second week of January 2019. Any comments about handicap parking spaces? My husband has mobility issues. He does not have a wheelchair. He walks but slowly. Are their these kind of parking space near the entrance?
Additionally, we were thinking about staying instead in Huisnes-sur-Mer. Any suggestions? thanks
