Where to stay before flying out of Geneva
Thank you for the input I have already received. I have decided on the Walker's Haute Route starting in Chamonix and ending with two nights in Zermatt er\arly August.
From Zermatt, in the morning I am heading to Montreux to see friends and take a tour of the lake with them. I expect we will be finished by dinner time. The next day I have an 11:30 am flight out of Geneva.
I have looked at Geneva hotels and, while I know it is only for dinner and a night's sleep, I am not enchanted with being in the city.
It seems with the trains running so well, I could open the possibility of a night in Montreaux or anywhere between there and Geneva.
Recommendations would be appreciated- One night's lodging between Geneva and Montreux.
Thank you...

And Switzerland unlikely to have train strikes - unlike France and Italy so a safe bet. Most here love Montreux and neighboring Vevey - just buy those tickets at stations day of travel or before. www.sbb.ch has all info on Swiss trains.

Hi onthebow,
Yes, I'm one who adores Montreux, but after touring around it for the day.... would you have seen enough? You could spend a few hours exploring the winding streets of neighboring Vevey, or you could explore the castle of Chillon, or you could walk along the pretty lakeside promenade.
But if you'd like to stay closer to the airport, I could recommend Nyon or Morges. Nyon is a larger town, but pretty, right on the lake, with some interesting Roman ruins. Morges is a delightful small town with a lovely lakeside area, a small castle in town, and a totally cute car-free promenade in town lined with interesting cafes and shops. Either of those would keep you entertained for a few hours in the evening.
Have fun as you plan!
