So, our hotel told us the road to Vernazza will be closed the weekend we are there and recommended parking in Levanto or La Spezia and taking the train.

But it looks like there is a major wine festival in Levanto that weekend. We would arrive 8 a.m. Saturday, May 18 and the festival is Sunday. Does anyone know whether we would have any chance of parking in Levanto if we arrived early May 18? I heard there are some free lots in Levanto, but I'm terrified of arriving and not finding any parking.

Would it make more sense to just leave the rental car in Genoa (where we will be staying prior to this) for the weekend? If so, anyone know of any cheap lots for 3 days? Our hostel in Genoa has free parking but I doubt they'll let us just leave the car there.

I would leave your car in Genoa. You could ask the hostel in Genoa, if you cold leave your car there, you may want to leave some of your luggage there, even if you have to pay it would be worth it.

There is a big lot on the water in Monterosso---I would go there---2nd choice is Levanto.
