I wouldn't go to Aix, personally, but there is Avignon and the surroundings which would be easy.
Where do you fly home from?

Don't know what else you visited when in Nice, but St Paul de Vence for 2 nights and Biot for 1 more night are within reach of Nice, which is probably your airport

I assume you are planning for day-trips - not over-nighters. I'm also assuming that you won't have a car.

It seems that both Aix and Avignon will take quite a bit of time to get to/from.

Aix - lv at 8:13 arrive at 12:29
return at 17:25 & arrive back in Monte Carlo at 21:47
both trips involve 2 train/bus changes
that gives you 5 hrs there

Avignon - lv at 9:02 & arrive at 12:52
return at 16:20 & arrive at 21:47
2 bus/train changes on both trips
4 1/4 hrs in Avignon

If you won't have a car, visiting the many small villages in the Nice Hinterland are not an option. You can get to St Paul & Vence by public transportation. I would visit Menton. I'm not a huge fan of Cannes - but many people are & it might be a good place for you to explore.

thank you so much for the replies. avignon was part of my to go list but my conference schedule has changed. it looks like i will fly out from nice to paris instead. I'm a bit disappointed as i was excited to explore Avignon and even checked out train schedules already. I am now looking at Saint Mont Michel as an alternative because of the location from Paris!

MSM is a fer piece from Paris, just so you know. I don't know how long you have in Paris, but it might be a bridge too far!!

If you are talking about Le Mont Saint-Michel, it's not just a hop away from Paris. If you still have 4 days and want to include a tour of Normandy, it makes sense, but you'll need a car.
