where to go in 2012? something a little different!

okay, so most of us start a year with a list of destinations, ideas of where to travel and general desire to be on the 'road' and experience the wonders (human and otherwise) around the world........

So where are you going....why? or why not?

does this list ever get past the front of the fridge or the to do list on your phone/tablet/email account?

have some hilarious or not so hilarious turn of events changed your itinerary for the better?

yes i've posted this in Europe, hey 'cause thats where I want to be in 2012, what about you?

Paris, Paris, Paris! In Sept.---until then Turks & Caicos for a little beach time and also a few short weekends close to home.

I might add that when I am sitting on the beach in Turks & Caicos I'll be reading about Paris--not that I'm obsessive about my favorite city or anything.

We were going to Poland for a Hindu/Catholic wedding but the bride has runaway yet again. We are headed for York, Scotland, and Dublin.

We also had a long time trip scheduled to Sri Lanka but a civil war got in the way.

brilliant trips and the destinations are very welcoming.

we are bound to travel with our home country this year whilst saving for rome/tuscany/cairo/luxor/singapore the year after.

yes definately relate to the 'call of a destination' it is the nile/pyramids for DH and Rome/sorrento for myself.

if i could travel just by dreaming i would be there already ( i would also dream up a no limit no payback credit card!!)

we have had some interesting side trips on previous trips that have let us to discover little gems that we would have travelled past if it wasn't for:

a no vacancy sign at our intended destinaton (we now book ahead lol) and had to travel further a field,

not knowing the roads/highways and needing petrol and stopping in a small town to find a lovely natural wonder

plus meeting new friends whilst asking for directions......

holidays/adventures/experiences to be had and to always remember

Well, lets see and my list has grown and I should be lucky that it has.

Ireland in April- booked and paid for.

San Franciso, CA in June- most is booked and paid for except for the car rental.

Canary Islands in October - this one is still in the making. I was just asked this week to join a group from work. I can swing the vacation time and cost but I'm still a little iffy because of said things.

Germany and hopefully Switerland in November/December- so far, I have put the time off from work in but nothing has been booked. I would like to hit the Christmas markets and make a side trip to see my friend who will be living in Switerland. I haven't confirmed with my friend so this trip is currently up in the air.

Wow, job is a little unsettled now so for the past couple years I've stayed around the East Coast. But this year, I'm going to my first ever trip to Spain. Sad that I won't have time to visit my favorite city London, but perhaps next year.

I leave Tuesday the 31st for Hawaii. I have already booked my airfare and hotels for Italy and France for April 26-May 9. I am currently searching and hoping for better airfare to Stockholm for a cruise-July 28. I will probably fly into Zurich and spend a few days in Wengen before the cruise. Haven't decided on my September trip yet, but probably Germany and Austria...maybe Amsterdam. October New England states for fall folliage. Hopefully in December, back to NYC for the Christmas decorations. I am ready to go!

To all---we have been going to Europe in the fall for many years. When we went to Ireland in May of 2011 my best friend told me----Europe in the fall, many flowers. Europe in spring, not so much. She was right!

So, we went to Ireland in Sept.---fantastic. Ireland in May---a real downer, Paris in Sept. for 8 trips has been wonderful.

scatcat---Hawaii? I'll be interested to hear your take on it as you are well traveled.

TPAYT-- I have been to Hawaii many times, but it has been 8 years since I last went. I usually stay on Maui, but this trip I will be staying 4 nights in Waikiki and 4 nights on the Big Island. I will be with my son and he is going to Maui for 2 weeks in June, so we decided to skip it this trip. I am sure I will miss Maui. I really like the Big Island too, but it has grown so much over the years.
