Here are some images of Sicily that may help you to get a mental picture.

Just a small forum tip... You & your Mom might want to sign your emails, or somehow indicate which person is writing, so we know who we're "talking" with. It's a little confusing when two different people post using the same screen name.

How old will you be when you return?
Google Agrigento and Segesta, they are specatcular antiquities, as is getting as close to the smmit as they will allow you on Mt. Etna.
You will have a wonderful time.

Andrealb, just wondering, are you of Italian heritage? If so, maybe it would be fun to research places from which your family emigrated. But you don't have to be Italian to enjoy Sicily. You will be studying ancient history in school and, supposedly, Sicily has more Greek ruins than Greece itself. It would be fun to take great pictures of these sites and share with classmates in the future. Also they have fabulous food and pizzas there! Have a great time....

We visited a friend's family in a small town near Corleone. We do not speak Italian and they do not speak English. Of course, they were warm and welcoming.
I am sure your parents know, once you're in the grasp of your family your life is theirs. They will feed you and introduce to every cousin they can find and usher you every where. It will stay with you the rest of your life.

Just a note on meeting family in Sicily. Try to bring a few family pictures, especially old ones of your family members who immigrated to America. (copies to leave too.) Also make sure you have a documented place you MUST head off to. As Aduchamp knows, they are wonderfully warm and friendly people. They will love you! Show them you absolutely must leave for a reservation to climb Etna, or something.

In Palermo be sure to see the chapel with all thosezillionsof skulls and bones and skeletons in it- really macabre and maudulin - your vocab words for the day.
As for food treats just pop into any Pizza joint and buy a slice of take out pizza - chosing between varieties you have never even heard of.
and any caffe will be sure to have great gelato

East of Polizzi Generosa, over by Taormina are the Alcantara gorges, which I think would be fun for you to hike up. The island isn't that big so I can't imagine it's more than an hour away from where you are staying.

Are you into cooking, there is a great place close to you with cooking lessons,Gangivecchio.
The famous actor was born in the town of Polizi, maybe there is a tour of his family home?

Here is something you girls might enjoy doing. Scrapbooking!!
Keep ticket stubs, brochures, little trinkets, euro coins etc. When you get home buy scrapbook supplies and get to work. They sell lots of scrapbook items about Italy that you can add.
