Where to Eat in London w/Kids?

We're off to London with children also... 14 and 16. I'm a bit confused as to the definition of 'children' regarding their eating in pubs. Are my children of an age where eating in pubs is allowed after 6 p.m.? I must admit, they have been looking forward to the experience! <BR> <BR>Also, my daughter has been on the internet looking up clubs where she can see some punk bands... mainly teenager clubs such as we have here in the U.S. (she is a terrific girl, and not out looking for trouble - just for a true London experience with her peer group). She would like to take her brother with her. I am concerned however, about giving them this freedom of experience in a city I have never visited, so am curious as to whether anyone has knowledge of the teenage scene in London, and its relative safety. <BR> <BR>Thank you!

My vote also goes for the Crypt at St. Martin's in the Field. They have a daily lunch special which is very reasonably priced and very good. If the special doesn't appeal to you, they have a variety of other foods as well (salads, soups, sanwiches, entrees), served cafeteria style. <BR> <BR>One word of warning: it's a popular place with both tourists and locals, so get there early!! One of you grab a table and the others get in line for the food, because by the time you have your food the place will be filled. <BR> <BR>Another plus, I don't recall anyone smoking in there, although we may have just lucked out and didn't sit near any smokers. <BR> <BR>Sitting in the crypt itself for lunch is fun, and you can always do the brass rubbings too.

When we were in London last year with our 11 & 7 yr old boys, we ate in a number of pubs. But only those pubs that had family areas for their restaurants. The boys were not allowed in the bar area. We ate at the pubs in the afternoon, so don't know about the no kids after 6pm, but sure Ben's info can be depended upon. we ate at restaurants for the evening. 1 Pub the kids really liked was the Gypsy Moth pub in Greenwich. They really liked the Sherlock Holmes restaurant (above the Pub), is located on Northumberland Ave(not Baker Street). It has a small, glassed in display about Sherlock Holmes, but the kid really liked the English food served there, & couldn't get enough of the treakle sponge dessert. Near the Russell Square area, for Italian, the kids really liked the Spaghetti House with its outside dining area, excellent food, & the attentive & entertaining waiters.
