Does anyone know of a good place to buy diamonds in the Netherlands? I will mostly be in Amsterdam and Haarlem. A friend gave me some money, but I leave tomorrow and I haven't looked into this at all. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

There's a very fine shop near the Rijjksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum -- name escapes me. But, I do hope your friend gave you A LOT of MONEY to buy loose diamonds. Diamonds are tough to buy for friends. I hope you got specifics about cut, carats, color and clarity. Diamonds are not cheap in The Netherlands.

The best place to buy diamonds is ... the United States. I went to Amsterdam and compared very specifically a 2carat, VVS, good color stone and found it to be about twice, yes, twice the price of the same loose diamond in the States (assuming you're working with a reputable broker). I had been told before I went over that Europe that diamond prices are high over there and it's true. You will notice for the most part that larger diamond rings belong to Americans. If your friend insists on a diamond from Amsterdam, prepare her/him that it will be small. Good luck!

hi there,<BR>agrees with above. On first, if You dont know where to buy diamonds You also dont know how to buy diamonds. This will make the this not too easy. The next is You dont buy for yourselfe. Hm ... So You have only one chance: to go to a regular diamond dealer, believe him and his knowledge and buy what You like and have money for. And on this, the price is nearly the same all over the world. It is nearly like gold, De Beers for ex. is holding tons of diamonds in their cellars to keep the price high on one level. This is a suspicious troll posting...buying loose stones requires a bit of knowledge about diamonds. Also, yes they are expensive in europe and then there is always the customs taxes going back into the US.

Thank you all for your input. This is not a troll post, just a genuine question at the last minute (I leave in a couple of hours). I'm just looking to buy a small, simple pair of diamond stud earrings. Any suggestions on where to go? Thanks!

I am in a similar situation.
Currently in Australia planning to work/travel around europe for 6 or so months and when my gf visits me i want to propose to her in Paris. I know cliche huh

I thought about getting it here in Australia but I don't want to be carrying around a $5000 item in my bag or pocket during the whole trip, fearing and stressing out if I might lose it!

So i figured it'd be best if I purchase the ring just before she comes around.

Any good recommendations anyone? I am willing to travel to UK or wherever to purchase if the price is right.
