Humanone, you seem to be pulling up very old threads, this one started April 2007 and ended July 2008.

I found a pizza which I really liked in Italy. I think the name is "Caprisiosa" or something like that. It had 4 toppings: ham, mushrooms, artichokes and olives. I loved it. We learned to order a pizza for each of us when a waiter told us that he could not serve us unless we each ordered one! We did that & they were delicious!

Indeed - I thought "This is ridiculous" as I munched my way through such a pizza in Cilento last year - I also saw many kids eating slices in Salerno.

Marsh, you must mean Capricciosa. It's available everywhere that sells pizza in the UK, although funnily enough I've never seen it in Italy ! I see Wikipedia lists it as a Roman topping, though, so if true that explains it.

They do put some odd things on pizzas in Europe. I once saw one on a menu in Vienna that had tuna, potatoes, and an egg on top (which was sort of fried, but not really cooked through - I saw one on someone else's table).

The best pizza I ever had in my life was at Pizza Trianon in Naples. It was a few years ago, so I wouldn't necessarily send someone there now. But Naples - that's the place to have it.

Traditional pizzas have none of those odd ingredients. Although I do remember sea urchin atop a pizza I enjoyed in Mondello during my first trip to Sicily!!

If there's a taste, there's a pizza for it, however for me the primary requirement is that it comes from a wood fired oven. PS: I learned in Naples, unless you love peppers, do not order pepperoni pizza....(and the waitress said she spoke english..)

There used to be a pizza place in the Dordogne that sold a pizza with magret de canard and pommes de terre sarladaises on it. Thankfully, it burned down.
