where is my hotel?
Does anyone know where Comfort Inn Eragny-Cergy is? The operator told me that it's 15 miles from Paris. She also told me that I need to take the PER to Cergy-Prefecture and then take the 449 bus. Can anyone tell me is this really inconvenience and how much do I need to pay each time for transpotation? And how long would it take to the city of Paris?
The price are really cheap:
298FF for a 2-bed room.
298FF+48FF for a 3-bed room.

Daniel, one word : run ! Being based in Eragny to visit Paris is like seeing Manhattan off New Jersey or living in San Bernardino to visit LA ! The commuting would involve one hour one way, not to mention the inconvenience of being squeezed with fellow commuters. And if you want to experience a big thrill, just take RER after 10 PM ! (it's that or a cab, 400 F !). You are quoting the price as the (only, I hope) reason to choose this area : 300 F is cheap, but for this price you can find a decent, nice hotel inside Paris (there was a thread on hotel Floridor place Denfert-Rochereau, a charming little hotel I know that costs 250 F ). And if you are willing to throw an extra 100 F (i.e. 50F - $ 9 - per person, since I understand you'll be travelling with a partner), you'll have plenty more choices. Anyway, being in Eragny, you'll be spending so much on transport that your "profit" would melt. And just think about the overall budget of your trip and calculate what an extra 100 F would mean.

You will have to travel intensively to get to Paris and back. I would reckon on one hour (minimum) each way, maybe an hour and a half. Getting to Cergy with the RER is quite easy but then you have to take a bus... On top of that, evening traffic is more than limited and the Cergy suburb can get wild sometimes. I would definitely advise you to book another hotel in downtown Paris. The price difference won't be much, since the single ticket to Cergy is relatively high.
Daniel -

RUUUUUUUN AWAAAAAAAY!!!!!

I have VERY, VERY strong opinions about this. Even if you have to pay double (which you won't), it's worth it to be in the center of town.

You should be able to get a decent room in Paris for between $50 - $100 per night. Depends on how picky you are and what you want. Do one thing if you do nothing else, make sure whatever hotel you book is within 2 miles of Kilometer Zero, this is Notre Dame and the official "center" of Paris.

Also, I would recommend staying in district 5 or 6 (or, some like 7). These are most conveniently located for sightseeing.

I have maps of Paris and would be happy to look up a location for you if you want to email me. I cannot stress enough how important it is to stay in town. And in town means within the perimeter freeway ring. To me, it means as close to the river, Notre Dame, St. Michel, and the Louvre I can get.

Good Luck

Daniel-

I don't know your hotel, and therefore can't comment on it. However, unless you have to get breakfast at the hotel, I would opt for getting the room without breakfast included. You will be able to find a cafe to get coffee and pastry for less than 45 ff, and it is fun to find places for breakfast.

Hi Daniel -

I'm glad you found another hotel. I didn't realize you needed a room for 4 people or I would have said more like $150+ per night. It really depends on where it is, if it is well known or not, how nice it is, and what you get with your room. The 770FF is a fair price depending on the place. It's hard to say before you see it but one thing is for sure, it is much, much better than the other one.

I located it on my map and it is about .5 mile from Cimetiere du Pere Lachaise (the place where THE DOORS singer Jim Morrison is buried) and about 1.7 miles from the heart of the city such as Notre Dame. MUCH, MUCH BETTER!!!! Also, depending on exactly where on the street you are, you will have access to several metro stops. Hopefully it's close because the closer the better!

As for breakfast, I would skip it. It's more fun to walk around and find a cafe or a bakery and try a different one each day.

Other things that matter are who's going with you and how old everyone is. Paris usually means lots and lots of walking. If you have young children or older adults with you (or if you are older yourself...it's hard to tell through the computer!) you may need to stop and rest more frequently. But, that's what the cafes are for!!

I noticed from you message you are only staying for 3 days and it looks like you leave tomorrow. If you have any other last minute questions please feel free to email me again and I'll try to answer before you leave.

Good Luck and let me know how it goes.

What is the exact address and name of your hotel ? Every day, on my way to work, I pass in front of a "hôtel Verlaine", which is at the intersection of rue Saint-Maur and avenue de la République. If it's this one, it seems pretty nice, well located, and... 10, maybe 15 meters to the metro station !
