Where is cheap but a great visit in Europe?

I am on the Australian dollar and Europe can be very expensive. I have been to Czech Republic and loved that but wondered where else do people recommend that is relatively inexpensive?

Try Poland! Mazurian Lakes on the Baltic coast. Maybe, Sopot. In the cities inquire at local Universities about their hotels. In the South..Zakopane and the Tatras.

If you are at all adventuresome, Romania is one of our all time favorites. Lithuania was more of a jewel than we expected. We've visited Poland twice and like it quite a bit.

Well, the Bavarians took care of that problem, didn't they?

One dead, two injured at a camping site. They were actually making photos instead of running (Not that it would help much...)

Bears kill tourists in US campgrounds too.

We just came back from Turkey and loved it. It was great, but I don't know that I would classify it as exactly cheap, but it is less expensive than western Europe.

Kikitree,

I don't know how you like to travel, ie: hotels vs B&B, rental car vs public transportation, but we toured France, Belgium, Germany and Austria last spring on a very limited budget. you can read how we did it here:

Have just returned from Romania and would highly recommend it. Trains are easy and cheap if you're looking to do a bit of traveling in the country - or if not then i'd say Brasov for a week or so. Its a luverly town. We ate out just about every night in Romania - it is very cheap.
