We're flying into CDG on Nov. 7 & spending the night at the Sheraton before taking the TVG to Avignon the next day. We want to take the train into Paris for dinner. Where is the best place to get off (not knowing a thing about the city)?

Without transferring to the Metro? Luxembourg.

You'll be on the Left Bank right near a lot of restaurants and nice streets to walk on.

Depends on where you want to be. The RER stops many places - Chatelet, St. Michel, Gare du Nord - all of which are near good restaurants in their own right. Chatelet is close to the Marais, and lots of good restaurants. St. Michel is in the Latin Quarter, etc.

Check out some of the reviews on this site, and base your decision on such things as quality, cuisine, ambience, service, and price.

If you want to use public transportation for more than just the trip to and from the restaurant, I suggest you buy a one-day <i>Paris Visite</i> pass for Zones 1-5. This will get you unlimited travel on any M&eacute;tro, bus, and train, including the airport. (You DO want to see the Eiffel Tower from the Trocad&eacute;ro at night. Trust me.)

St, Michel..close to both Ile de la Cite and Ile St. Louis ..or easy to walk along St. Germaine. Avoid Chatelet..I have been lost in this vey unfriendly HUGE station.
