Hey there fodorites...
I love this thread for many reasons but I think we can all learn from how this posting was done.
1. the opening post is positive and welcoming
2. The poster cigalechanta then monitored it, responded to some of the posters and encouraged different people to make contributions
3. Posters then responded in kind.

Interesting post. My husband and I were born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. At various times in our lives we lived only a few blocks from one another. We both moved out of Milwaukee to a smaller city (Waukesha) about 20 miles away about 20 years ago. We met because our teenage daughters thought we would be a good "hook-up" and cooked up a scheme to work it out! We fell in love almost immediately and have been together 11 years, married 9. Friends invited us on a trip overseas shortly after 9/11. We went and have been hooked on European adventures ever since! This site has been so very interesting and so helpful while planning. As all of you know, the planning part is almosting as much fun as the actual travel. We are in that high anticipation mode now, beautiful Italy is on our plate in a mere 53 days! I live in Norfolk, VA. My husband is in the US NAVY and I have had the good fortune to travel to Europe for the past four years due to his official business there. Fodor's Talk has given me more useful information that any guidebook ever could. We have been to England, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Italy, and France.
Thanks again to everyone how have given me great advice.

Berkeley, California for the moment, but I'll be graduating in the next year and going wherever I get hired, which won't be the Bay Area.
I'm not really from anywhere, although if pressed I'll say I'm from Seattle, since that's the first place I got to choose to live, and it's where my son was born. I was born in Michigan while my mom was staying with her family while my dad was on an aircraft carrier. As a Navy brat, we moved far and often, including a stint overseas (the Philippines -- now that was an experience!). I attended six different schools in my first eight years of education. Unfortunately, this rolling stone hasn't been into gaining moss as an adult either, living in three different states and traveling to some twenty-odd foreign countries.
Thanks to growing up under a migration plan designed by Uncle Sam, I see myself pretty much as a citizen of the world.
