Harley USA! We live in a suburb of Milwaukee (Waukesha) where the roar and rumble of the Harley-Davidson 105th birthday party is commencing. As I write I can hear the live band entertaining those camping at the Expo and all day the roads have been alive with that "sound". This is a huge party in these parts...

I didn't realize this was such an OLD thread til I'd read half of the posts! When I got to the posts after 9/11 I got goose bumps! Anyway, I grew up in Alabama, moved to Hollywood, Florida, San Jose, California, Rancho Cucamonga, California, then to Fort Wayne, Indiana. We have family in Colorado, Georgia, Alabama and California, so we travel to those places often. I travel with girlfriends to Europe in March and with my husband in October every year, have been to many of the lovely places you've all lived. I just love traveling and sharing on this site.

BOSTON GTG, 2008
Its that time again when we need to get a count
as to who is coming and what your interests
might be.
The GTG will be held Saturday October 11,
2009 at the Le Meridien Hotel (formerly
the Hotel @ MIT); 20 Sidney Street;
Cambridge, MA.
We will gather at about 11AM in the rear of
the restaurant. It was called Sidney’s Grill.
Lunch will be served about 1PM. The cost
of the lunch will be $22.00 per person, all inclusive, except
for alcohol drinks and extras you might order.
We will host a dinner the nite before for anyone
who wishes to attend. The menu will be Italian
and we expect to dine at Bistro 5 in West Medford.
This is yet to be confirmed however. This is subject
to change however. We need to test it first.
On Saturday nite, Andy has again reserved the
Similan Thai Restaurant on First Street, Cambridge.
We will gather there at 7PM. We will split the bill
as we have done in the past.
Today I request that each of you indicate to me
here or via e-mail ([email protected]) your
intentions. I would need to know how many people
will attend EACH of the 3 meals. How many for lunch,
how many for dinner Friday, and how many for dinner
Saturday.???? Also include your screen name on fodors,
your full name, and your email address.
Thanks and we look forward to seeing you again
or for the first time.

While this sounds so wonderful, we leave for Amsterdam-Belgium-France trip Oct. 15, don't think we can sneak in a trip so close to departure.
I am wondering how all this works out, if you know each other at all or just by posts, and if one wanted to set up a meeting in say, Amsterdam, would you just say you'll be at a certain location and meet up with whomever shows up? This sounds great, hope you all have lots of fun.

Someone decides to have a GTG in their area. For instance Newyork/New Jersey but lots of posters from other states might join in. A restaurant or someone's home is where we meet. A fee for lunch or dinner and no, we usually have never met in person before.
Usually the nicer posters are the ones who attend.

I was born in Sebastopol, California
(Sonoma County Wine Country) & except when I was in the service I have lived in the same county my whole life(over 60yrs). I can't understand how anyone can not understand how this is not part of traveling. By us telling others where we were born & lived it tells others where they can travel to. By one of our Daughters moving to Germany 16 yrs. ago it gave us a new horizon to go over & many places to take & leave our hearts. Open your minds as well as your hearts when you travel & you may learn something.

topping for Challiman.
Welcome and thank you,RonReyn.
I started this post back then before registration because so many posters with "attitude" and used many names, rather than their real ones used this board to to insult, show how better they thought they were. Cowards rarely reveal themselves or attend a GTG.
They use many names to top their threads. Things haven't changed much since I started this thread.
We lost several informative posters because of death. And several left because of fodors politics.

Thank you for the further explanation. I've noticed not everyone is congenial, too bad since this is such a great site to get all sorts of information. Differing opinions are fine, nasty, snide, put-down remarks are not. I can see there would be some unwelcome guests.
Anyway, today is a good day to be in Indiana, no hurricane headed our way, no snow or ice, no earthquake, and despite it being about 90 there are signs of fall in the trees.
If I can figure out the calendar I'll check for some sort of GTG in this area. Thanks again.
For those in Gustav's way, take care and stay safe.
