Well I know nothing about how many cylinders it had, but we just rented a manual transmission Smart car in Spain for our trip through the Pyrenees. There were two of us, and we did have enough power on the roads over the mountains and the few times we were on the toll roads. Ours had a backseat which we did use when buying groceries and supplies when our suitcases were in the trunk. That said, we do travel fairly light--got our 2 suitcases in the hatchback trunk & had to put a small tote bag in the back seat.
