All I can remember was when I was there, it was obscurred by clouds and snow, was very disappointed and had to depend on a post card to know what I was looking at. But just the way the luck went, the rest of the trip was great. Hope you do better. Halfpint

If you can find a day with no storms or clouds, I think the early morning is best because as the sun rises, the matterhorm is exposed from dark to bright from peak to base. IMO it is a magnificant sight at any time.

Hi- i live right near the matterhorn, and the best time to visit and photograph would be in the morning. Any time before noon. After noon the sun is setting behind the Matterhorn, which means u would be shooting into the sun. No good! Try to keep an eye on the weather, but even on a relatively cloudless day the peak manages to catch some cloud cover.

I've visited Zermatt in April several times and there is no ASSURANCE of the weather or cloud cover UP ABOVE....it can also be overcast in the village but clear at the peak.

Assuming you are going to take the Gornergrat railway route up (vs. the cable car system) there is a livecam in the Gornergrat waiting room so you can SEE what the weather is like up above BEFORE you make the trip up.
