When do I buy my London theater tickets...now or when I arrive?
Our family is going to London in late June. Should we pick out theater tickets now and purchase advanced, or is there a place where we can purchase reduced cost day of the performance tickets in London?

Sherry - really depends on what you want to see. If you want to see one of the really popular productions like Mamma Mia it would make sense to book these in advance. Alternatively if you have no special preference just turn up to the half price ticket booth (TKTS) in the centre of Leicester Square on the day of the performance and see what is on the board. By doing things this way you can get a great seat for $30.

sherry83,

I agree with Andrew. If there's something popular that's a must-see for you, get your tickets ahead of time so you won't risk being disappointed. Otherwise go the TKTS route or ask directly at the theatre box office. You'll definitely save money. londontheatre.co.uk is an excellent site for finding out what's playing.

Here's a website with info on the TKTS booth in Leicester Square. It will also tell you what's available today to give you an idea of how available discounts are.
http://www.oficiallondontheare.co.uk.../tkts.showpage

You can get advance discount tickets for some plays over the net from lastminute.com. I just checked and Taboo with Boy George, for instance, is available for just 10 pounds.
Last year we saw the marvelous, award-winning, Vincent in Brixton, for under 20 pounds, just 14 rows from the stage.

Sherry -

If you want to see a Shakespeare play at the Globe theatre, you should buy your tickets as soon as possible. The theatre is small and sells out way in advance. They have a website, where you can see the seating layout and purchase the seats that are best for you.
Martha
to get the best seats to the popular current shows book as early as possible....i have had great luck with calling directly to ticketmaster IN london...you could probably use their web site as well, but calling allows feed back and give and take with the order taker....worth the money....

i usually combine these ticket purchases with last minute pick-ups in leicester square (their selection is usually very limited) and given the popularity of when you are going you do not want to be disappointed...also who wants to stand in a real long line for one hour...
