What's with the red?

I've been looking at European rental offerings for awhile now and it seems that each rental unit features red in the 'decor'. Red kitchen chairs, red sofas, red curtains, etc. France, Italy, love the red. Just curious, but does anyone know if this is a common design statement in homes, or just rental apartments?

I'm guessing Ikea is fond of red. Most apartments I've rented abroad feature lots of Ikea merchandise!

No red. Not that there is anything wrong with that! Just think the over- abundance of red is kind of strange. The IKEA reference may be the answer, although my son furnished his whole apartment with IKEA and managed to use more muted shades.

I was furniture shopping yesterday, and no it was not at Ikea! The most prominent colors for the leather furniture was red, brown, black or white. Loads of red and black painted and lacquer furniture too. I'm not sure my point except that this was in Seattle.
