I've done Paris in 5 full days and from L.A. But, I've been there over 2 dozen times, so it's not like I had to figure anything out. Happy Travels!

Went to Florence in March for my Birthday for 5 days. Had a blast the weather was excellent. Planning on doing something similar next year, can't decide where to though.

Our first short trip was to Paris for 5 days. We weren't looking to go anywhere but AA had a cheap flight to Paris and we couldn't say no! Now, we don't think twice about a quickie trip.

Did it leave us wanting more?
Did you feel like it made the flight worthwhile?

Yes!! And yes!!

Left Tampa on Friday afternoon, connected in Chicago to Manchester, UK, arrived Saturday morning, went to a ManU match, stayed Saturday night, returned on Sunday, through Chicago and home Sunday evening.

In fact during a return from one of these trips, I had a US Customs officers question me about it, as she had a hard time believing I flew all the way to UK just for the weekend. When I produced a ticket stub from the match and an autographed match program, she laughed and that was that.

I went to Rome for 3 nights and Paris for 4. Yes, both were absolutely worth it! A tad bit exhausting but amazing nevertheless.

I had been to Rome before, and have been since, so it was fine. I left Paris wanting more, of course, but but no so much that it was bothersome. I was able to see a lot. If you plan your itinerary carefully it's amazing how much you can accomplish in a short period of time.

In the last three years I've done two trip to France. One was to Lyon (via Paris) where I left on a Friday night, TGV'ed there and came back early Wed morning by TGV and flew home.

The other was to visit Paris...left on a Wed afternoon and came back on Monday afternoon.

Also did a short vaction to London under a BA special, for 4 days.

On these types of trips, I found it important to take care of jetlag, and to plan itinerary bit more. My time in Lyon worked out great because the time I alloted was just right to get a good overview of the city, and decide if I wanted to come back and see more (I will). For Paris, having been there before, my time was spent filling in some sights I have not yet seen, trying some new restaurants,etc..

I always think that any trip to Europe is worthwhile. For these short trips I kept expenses low by going off season (fall), using Travelocity for hotel (Paris) and flights, and for Lyon I used the SNCF site to book TGV and a hotel.

In that I live in California I have no desire to make a quick trip to Europe. No doubt I would if I lived on the eastcoast of the US. I envy those that do..you are fortunate.

I left on Thursday and came back on a Monday. I would go tomorrow if I could. It is the best mini vacation to do.

You people got my juices running. I'm flying out of Midland Mich on Friday night and returning Wednesday. Amsterdam, Haarlem, and Paris. I know them well. Just want to have some haring and the air of Paris for a few days.

I have done it reverse ways after 911. There were several cheap fares from Dublin to NY and Boston. NY was full so we went to Boston. Such a fun spur of the moment weekend even after all the sadness of 911. We went when I first was seeing my now husband. Found out he was a great travel partner and sealed it for me!

I'll add to this then.

Just spent one night in Barcelona. Two nights in Ibiza. Then about 15 hours in London from touch down to flight departure.

Sixteen days - we normally go to Europe for at least three weeks. I could not imagine going for less but then again I have trouble with jet lag/insomnia. If I go I may as well take all the time I want and need! I think I would dread coming home too much so quickly...

five days abroad is about one day longer than many of my last few trips to Europe! go for it. Some of my fave times are leaving work on a Thursday night and flying all night to London or Paris, etc. and coming back Monday (and a few times on Sunday!).
no, you won't see everything those cities have to offer . . . but you won't see everything in two weeks either! you work with what you have available. just don't try to pack everything in the world into three days and you will do just fine.

Just finished my 5 days on the ground in Holland. We had Thalys tickets and a reserved room for a night in Paris but a wildcat strike on Belgian rail stopped all trains on Monday and forced us to cancel Paris. We did beautiful Antwerp as a day trip on Tuesday. The mussels are great.

I spent a week in Paris in January 2005 and it was perfect. The ticket was only $400 from Austin, TX so I felt justified in going for only a week. I'm not sure I would take such a short trip with airfares being so high these days.

Went to Munich in January from MN. Left on Thursday night and returned on Sunday. Just a blast.

We leave in two weeks for London. Thursday night to Monday morning.

Just got back from Singapore. Arrived there on Thursday morning at 2:30am and returned on Monday morning.

Short trips are great. Find a good fare, turn in Hilton points and away you go.

Always want more. Also going to Christmas markets in Germany and Austria over Thanksgiving and following week. But going for 9 nights on that trip. That will be nice.
