What's the latest scoop on Delta's strike?
Got a flight planned for Tuesday a.m. Called Delta and they (based in India!) give me their scripted reply that everything is going to be ok and if not, they will honor the ticket with some other airline. Think that is true? Should I assume all will be well? Starting to chew my fingernails!

Neopolitan--- Been checking various places to find out what the deal is, but mum seems to be the word. Guess I'll have to wait along with the rest of the world for the vote on the 15th. Meanwhile, I'll keep my fingernails in reserve!! Thanks for your "nail-biting" reply!

Even if you call customer service they will not be able to tell you anything because they, like the rest of us poor souls holding Delta tickets, do not know anything. Living here in Atlanta you can imagine that there are a TON of people wondering what will happen and there are guesses along both lines that a settlement will be forthcoming and a strike averted OR the pilots do stike and if so, Delta will be history within a few days. I have also heard that there will be a 30 day cooling off period after a strike is declared which would put the date around May 15. In short, stay tuned because who knows what is going to happen and calling Delta right now is useless.

I have tickets to CDG, dep ATL on May 18 and dep CDG on May 30. I booked through airfrance.com--flight over is an Air France operated flight (code shared with Delta), flight back is a Delta operated flight.
There wouldn't be a problem with the departing flight would there, given that it's Air France operated? And for the returning flight, since I booked through AirFrance.com, wouldn't they put me on an AF operated flight at no extra charge?
IF there's a strike, that is. Hopefully it's a non-issue.

As you can see from the earlier posts, it is anyone's guess if they strike/stay in business. You can take some steps to protect yourself however. One, see if your trip includes insurance. If it does, check the policy to see what it covers. Purchasing a ticket with a credit card also gives you the help of the credi card company should they stop flying. Even better is if you buy a refundable ticket. Last, you can always purchase a refundable ticket on another airline, so that way you have a backup in case your Delta flight is affected.
Hope this helps! I am flying them the end of this month, and aside from preparing for a drive as opposed to a flight, I am not doing anything else. What will happen will happen.

suntravler, I'm in the same boat. I used miles for this next trip and have an e-ticket. I was told that changing to a paper ticket was useless anyway since FF miles were used. Yes, we may well be up a creek.....I'm going to cross that bridge when/if I need to. To all our fellow Fodorites, PLEASE keep your fingers crossed for a good resolution. I REALLY REALLY do want to go on vacation May 15th!!!!

My best understanding of the FF issue is that it doesn't matter what type of currency the ticket was purchased with. FF tickets are still confirmed tickets and Delta has a contract with the folks who hold those tickets. Whatever is done for folks holding tickets paid for with currency should also be done for folks holding tickets paid for with miles. A ticket is a ticket.

Educated guess on your Jamaica trip? You'll be fine.
Consequences to me... or anyone else here on this forum who makes an "educated guess" prediction... and turns out to be wrong? Zero.
I know it's a cynical reply - - but asking others to predict "what will happen" really doesn't much value,
Asking for advice on what you might do if scenarion X or Y or Z occurs - - now that could be useful.
In that context, I recommend obtaining paper tickets for any upcoming Delta travel. Makes it easier to get passage on another airline, if that becomes necessary.
Best wishes,
Rex

The Atlanta Journal and Constitution addressed the issue today of what if and what to do. Here is the link:

Both sides are upping the rhetoric.
Some see a meaningful indication because the negotiation talks shifted to New York City from Washington.
The aJC is saying a strike is unlikely.
So who knows? I sure as heck don't; don't pretend to. After Eastern Airlines went down the tubes, I have not been surprised by anything related to airlines and strike threats.

TLANTA(AP) Delta Air Lines Inc. and its pilots union reached a tentative agreement Friday on pay and benefit cuts that could avert a strike at the nation's third largest carrier and ease uncertainty among travelers over the busy Easter weekend.
