What's the easiest way to travel, with luggage, from Montecatini to Florence?
My husband & I are making our first trip to Europe in April & May '07. We will be leaving our tour group in Montecatini and need transportation to Florence. We don't speak Italian and are reluctant to rent a car. We've learned that there is train service between the two cities but can't seem to find out if we can take our luggage on-board with us. (We will each have one large suitcase and one "carry-on" bag and we're seniors.) Any suggestions for an efficient, economical means of transport? Thanks.

If you go to www.bahn.de, the German national rail site that has timetables for most of Europe, you'll see that there are at least two trains an hour between Montecatini and Florence.
You cannot check luggage. You are responsible for it and you carry it on board yourself. Luggage that won't fit in the rack above your seat goes in the storage area at the end of the car. Keep an eye on it when the train stops at a station.

You can stow your luggage on an overhead rack or maybe near the end of the car. It's a Regional train, not a Eurostar or anything. You can check it out, times, prices, etc., at
