What's the best neighborhood in Colmar for shopping and restaurants?

I'm traveling with my father (80 years old and not a super great walker) and I'm trying to figure out the most convenient location for restaurants and shopping in Colmar (not big museum people). We're between Maison des Tetes (north end of old town) or les Colombier (by petit venise). Both appear to be nice hotels so just trying to figure out which is closer to things to do for my father. Appreciate any thoughts.

Colmar is a fairly small town in the center - the Petit Venise is a dreamy area but anything on the edge of the town center would be located within walking distanc of about everything - and chck out the copy of the Statue of Liberty in Colmar!

Agree with PalenQ - Colmar is not large at all. Don't worry.

Thanks for the thoughts. Agree it looks small. Just figure for him a 15 minute walk is not insignificant. Glad to hear the petit venise is a cool area.

and as i recall though a while ago Petit Venise, the area of quaint canals, is right in the heart of town - probably closer than your other choice.

Stayed at le colombier. Nice hotel in great location. We loved restaurant le petite venise and while the setting at le petit gourmand was wonderful (terrace over the canal) the food was just OK. We did like the place with the outdoor oven right around the corner from le colombier which served really good flammekuche. The other good find was the market with little food shops right on the canal (think ferry building in SF).

Next trip I would like to try JY's but was with my father this trip and would not have been his cup of tea.

It's a tiny place. Not to worry. Just read the menus posted outside the restos.
