What to see/do between Budapest & Ljubljana?

I'm looking for ideas for an interesting stop between Budapest and Ljubljana. We have 4 days, including travel time, and we enjoy museums, architecture, art, music, trying different food, and walking/hiking. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What about Austria, maybe Vienna or a smaller city like Graz? August may not be the best time for Vienna since some of the music venues, opera, and ballet do not have August performances. Are you driving or taking a train?

I have long wanted to visit Pecs, the most "Mediterranean" city of landlocked Hungary

We will be in Bled and at Plitvice Lake while traveling in Slovenia/Croatia/bit of Bosnia-Herz. Will look at Vienna or Graz, Austria and Pecs, Hungary for the time between our Habitat build and Croatia. We will be traveling by train from Budapest to Ljubljana. Thanks for the suggestions!
