What to do in Brussels for a weekend?

I will be going to Brussels for business, but have two friends coming to visit for a weekend. What are the very best things to do in and around Brussels? Also - would it be wise to rent a car there? Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The most memorable thing to do would be to take a train to Brugge for a daytrip. The one-way travel time is less than an hour and it is one of the best-preserved medieval cities of western Europe, complete with lots of canals and cathedrals. Brugge also has one of the few Michelangelo sculptures outside of Italy. A daytrip to Ghent or Antwerp would also be rewarding.

In Brussels, the major attraction is the Grand Place- whatever else you do, don't miss the Grand Place. There are, however, many other places within the old town that are worth exploring. I thought that the Atomium was a lot of fun, but it definitely isn't for the culturally snobbish.

If you will only be traveling within Belgium and don't plan to get off the beaten path, you won't need a car. The trains are very easy to use.

Take it from me, get on a Train and spend the weekend in Bruges. It's a beautiful little town with tons of character, charm and great food !!

Thanks for the responses, looks like we'll be adding Brugges to our itinerary!

P.S. Poop - that's really cute. Grow up.
