Rhone-Alps. Lyon doesn't get big write ups in tour guides, but it's a really rich city. And anyone who's read my posts about it is yawning now, but here I go anyway....

For the fall, the Beaujolais Nouveau is THE thing to do, and I loved being here for it last year!! Very exciting -- the newspapers were covering how many bottles, how much wine, how many planes, where they were going, etc. Wine tasting in Lyon (a tent is set up and you taste and taste to your heart's content -- refills are given freely and the wine is $3 a bottle) and around Beaujolais, etc. And everywhere you go, Beaujolais Nouveau -- the restaurants touting their choices!

I've loved living in Lyon, and my mom and best friend said they liked it better than Paris. It's a small city, completely walkable, and if you're up for driving in France, stay at Perouges (about 30 min outside of Lyon) -- it's a medieval village. Lyon's got great museums too.

Geneva isn't far away, and there are plenty of other cities to visit too (for example, Dijon is 3 hours by train)
