What Lurks Behind that Hotel Room Door?
What strange and unusual things have you found in a hotel room in Europe?
We found a dead rat in a 3Star hotel in London. That's why we always check around before unpacking.
But just look what these poor people found:
LONDON (Reuters) - A British couple got more than they bargained for after the discovery of a badly decomposed body in an upstairs bedroom of their new home, the Daily Telegraph said Monday.
The newspaper said the skeletal remains may have been in the 98,000 pounds ($180,300) derelict house in Birmingham, central England, for at least two years and had escaped detection despite complaints from neighbors about a bad smell.
$180,000 doesn't buy much in the UK these days!

Fleas or bedbugs, never got a clear answer at the Washington Hotel, on Curzon St in Mayfair. Needless to say, we got a bigger nicer room for less , but I am pretty sure that we have not had any dead bodies in our rooms so far.

This was actually in a hotel in Dallas, Texas, not in Europe, but after checking in to a downtown Dallas hotel (part of a major chain), we opened the door to our room and found a couple asleep in the bed!
(Thank goodness they were asleep!)
The staff at the desk seemed a little disorganized... to say the least.

WillTravel, we beat feet out of the place. We got enough of them freeloaders in our cabin at home.
Reminds me of a time in the Orient. I checked in and went up to my room only to find a guy and gal having sex on the bed.
Being discreet, I gave them 10 minutes to stop and then coughed to alert them to my presence! When they looked over at me, I gave them a 7.5 for visual presentation and a 9 for technical merit!
Seriously, the desk clerk assigned me to the wrong room. They quickly upgraded me and gave me drink coupons. The couple could not make eye contact with me when we passed later in the lobby.

Our school band was in Los Angeles to march in the Rose Bowl parade. The hotel room had a white "dead body" outline on the floor. The hotel gave us a new room. (This was back in the late 1980's).

One that made me look twice at stains in shower--
A motel in Alaska had sign on inside of room door:
"No cleaning game in room"
making me think it was in response to what hunting guests had been doing in the rooms.

At a hotel in Boston there was a guy sitting a chair watching a soccer game when I opened the door. He didn't speak english, but I think he thought I was room service. I thought I had the wrong room, because it was one of those card keys with no room number on it. The front desk clerk screwed up. They upgraded me to a corporate suite.

The Edgewater Hotel in Seattle, which is right on the pier, has a rule of "No fishing out the windows." This is because a famous rock star caught a fish and hid it in the walls, with predictable results. At least that's what the tour guide said.

Jolie, I'm still laughing at your misfortune. What a shock that must have been. Was that a no-star hotel?
WillTreavel, they were real nice about it and tried to give us a bigger room on another floor, but we opted to go across the street to a more expensive place. Of course, rats can be found anywhere.

Degas - My hotel (with the police outline) was a discount chain, like Comfort Inn or Days Inn, or something similar. But I don't remember exactly, since it's been over 15 years, and I wouldn't want to disparage the wrong hotel. But it was a national (albeit cheap) chain of some sort.

, being the prude I am I slowly backed out of the room, gently closed the door and "ran" down to the lobby to tell the desk clerk. They were in a mode of "oooooh, soooorry!". Exchanged my key for another room key and so I (sigh) went to the next room that they assigned me.

A huge Banana spider crawling up the wall by the TV set in our room at the Royal Hawaiin in Honolulu. I was going to get my razor and shave his legs for him. I could have done a comb-out on that big baby. After that I was more inclined to keep my screen closes. Duh.
