What is the price in 2010 for a US citizen for a visa to enter Turkey?

I read in postings from spring 2009 that the going rate for a visa for a US citizen entering Turkey was $20 (US) or Euro15 if it was purchased at the airport. Can someone please let me know what the rate is now? (an earlier poster said the rate can vary depending on what Turkish citizens are charged to enter the reciprocal country).

Here's something from the US State Dept stating the visa is $20. I'm not sure if the site is kept up to date but there's a phone number to call to verify the price.

Probably $20, but if you are bringing in cash for your hotel, the visa amount will be insignificant even if more than $20.

We entered in late October, 2009 and the rate was $20 or 15 Euros.

I think last June-July I paid an odd amount, something like $23. It may also depend on the exchange rate. If you are arriving at Istanbul airport, there is an atm in the arrivals terminal

Not in the international or domestic arrival in the airport on the Asian side. A Danish women had problems because she did not have dollars or euros or any Turkish money, and she had to go through immigration to get to an ATM, but one could not go through immigration without the visa.

If you get the Visa beforehand by applying at consulate in U.S., the fee is $58plus $10 UPS. The Turkish website is so awful, don't even try the e-commerce to apply online.
After being on hold for over one hour, since they hung up on me twice, I finally reached someone. She said we can get visa as we get off a cruise ship. She says $5, which I doubt she knows the correct answer since all of above say $20 or so.

I am American. In February, we flew from Zurich to Istanbul on SwissAir. As you head toward the place where you must obtain the Visa (which was $20 US to be paid in cash) there is an ATM machine on your left.

elaine, did you pay in lira or USD?

As stated above there is an ATM by the place to get your visa. I know in most situations it's best to pay with local currency but for some reason I thought it was better to pay for the visa in USD. This is why I asked elaine if she paid in lira or USD, perhaps she paid more for using lire? Any thoughts on this?

PS coldy, come to the US on your next vacation and we won't charge you anything to get in. We do love you.

_______________

They want to start a hockey club.
Cold-I keep on reading not to make any jokes about Ataturk while in Turkey. Think of yelling Beliveau Sucks at a Canadiens game.

Current visa fees from Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
http://www.mfa.gov.tr/visa-fees-at-b...or-2010.en.mfa
US$60 or 45 euro for Canadians, to be paid in cash.
$20 or 15 euro for Americans.
Some nationalities are exempt, like New Zealand, France, Italy, Japan, Germany. If you are a dual national, produce a passport that gives you visa-free entry.

Visa fees at the border can only be paid in certain foreign currencies, namely US$, euro or pound sterling, in cash only (no card or TC), in paper notes, no change given. You cannot pay in Turkish lira.

WOW, they don't even want their own currency? Someone told me it's best to pay in USD but I didn't realize they don't want lire. Interesting, thanks.

They don't want Turkish Lira precisely because the whole operation is deliberately engineered to acquire hard currency (USD, EUR, GBP etc) instead! It's been a few years since I was a (very) frequent traveller to Turkey, but the drill was always to make sure you had the correct hard currency in banknotes with you ready to hand over at Turkish immigration.

...and if it's still the case today that hard currency is requried, the presence of an ATM machine in the airport in Turkey would be completely irrelevant (as it will only dispense TL).
