to book Paris to Frankfurt go to www.voyages-sncf.com - again booking way in advance can yield deep discounts but are train-specific and cannot be changed nor refunded. Wal up tickets are always available IME but can cost a ton more.

For example pricing a ticket on a random date two months in advance you can get fares from 79 euros or full fare of about 130 euros - significant savings per person but you do lock yourself into a certain train on a certain date and no changes nor refunds are allowed. Early bird gets the worm if you are spot on sure of your exact travel time and date. (these fares were Paris to Frankfurt on www.bahn.de/en - on which you can book tickets and print them at home I believe.

Palen and French Myhstique Thank you for your valuable advice. Perhaps I am over thinking everything. I will check out all the sites and sit down with hubby and let him know everything. Thank you once again. Sue

Instead of using voyages-sncf.com you might find it easier to use www.capitainetrain.com. The voyages-sncf site is in French and the English version of the site may redirect you to the RailEurope site, which you should avoid as it has higher prices and doesn't show all available trains.

I am by no means an expert on rail travel in Europe but you can use capitainetrain to buy tickets in several European countries:

Thanks Palen and FrenchMystique capitainetrain sounds perfect to me. I went to that man in seat 61 site and he has so much info. So together with your info and info on the site I feel confident to travel by train now in Europe.
