sharona...just to be clear. The Barclay's cards are signature preferred with pin capabilities. Do check which one you apply for in terms of rewards, annual fees and foreign transaction fees. A good card is the Arrival's card (not arrivals plus) with no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee. Arrival plus has a fee of $85 but is waived for the first year.

almcd...all part of American exceptionalism. Take exception to anything done elsewhere in the world even if it makes sense or is more cost effective. Of course, even if the USA went metric, they would still have to retain the imperial system for measuring distances as it would be astronomically expensive to replace all the highway signs and renumber the exits on those interstate highways which use distances from the state lines as the exit numbers. Of course replacing the paper money for trivial amounts like $1 and $2 is a no brainer but we need nice looking $1 and $2 coins, not the garbage we have had. Getting rid of the penny, like they have done quite successfully in Canada is another no brainer.
But to help others who might not know. The last letter of the alphabet is referred to as "zed" in all English speaking countries except...you guessed it. The good old USA.

I used to have an Andrews chip and PIN Visa too but got one through my primary credit union instead, so I canceled the Andrews card - didn't need two. The Andrews Chip and PIN is not a true "chip and PIN" in the sense that if you are at a machine, you can use your PIN, but if a human being (say an agent or clerk) is involved in the transaction you will need to sign a slip like a chip and signature card. Not a big deal, and not the reason I canceled the card. It was handy to have it in cases where I didn't want to go stand in line for train tickets at a counter - saves time.
