What I love about Spain
some serendipitous thoughts
1. the public bathrooms - seriously some of the best and cleanest we've seen on our travels, even in the small villages where you might expect them to be less than ideal. Many of them are decorated with gorgeous painted tiles - even in the Madrid train station
2. The birds - everywhere we've been (except Barcelona) we have been serenaded by birds almost constantly, something that is sadly disappearing in many American cities
3. the willingness of most folk I meet to tolerate my halting and grammatically challenged Spanish
4. THE FOOD THE FOOD THE FOOD - we feel like we are in food heaven - and almost everywhere we've eaten, even the small casual places, the food is presented so elegantly, and the wait staff are incredibly polite and proper in their presentation - we are madly taking notes so we can recreate some of what we are eating at home.

Thanks for posting this. It's been a while since we've been to Spain. Another person glad to know the toilettes are cleaner.
I love Spain, and do agree with their tolerance for imperfect Spanish, but I think most people tolerate that since we're trying.
French people seem to be really nice about these things b/c they usually say, "oh let's just do this in English"
