Private hospitals for future reference for anyone.
"By the way, it's natural as you get older to have fewer colds."
Yes, because we don't have little ones coming home from school with illnesses and sneezing in our faces or hugging them to make them feel better.....and we get it.

We have Blue Cross insurance, so when I travel, I go online and find a list of hospitals and doctors in the cities I will be visiting that Blue Cross is connected with. It makes it easier if there is an illness or emergency - just call a taxi and go. I also take along a couple of the forms for submitting claims overseas. So far have never had to use them but it is nice to know you have them along.

Sorry to venture off the subject in response to an old post, but I missed this earlier, and I want to set the record straight:
Back on May 20, Eschnaton wrote, as a passing remark, "there had been a pneunomia epidemic in Alabama"...
Not in my lifetime, and I am in my 60s. Sure, there are random cases, just as elsewhere, but not epidemics. And, our doctors do know about antibotics and how to administer them. Alabama is not a Third World country.

When you are in London and you get this awful case of the "flu" and you go to the local "chemist" and buy that most awful-tasting "cough syrup" which makes actual death seem like a wonderful alternative.
When you are in Berlin, on a SUNDAY and you get this sinus infection and the headache from Hell and only THREE pharmacies in the city are open
When you are on Fodors and aq LOT (don't MAKE me put down this baby and resurrect the actual threads) of people, one of whom is on THIS thread were telling us all about how wonderful Airborn(e) was and how it guaranteed your plane wouldn't crash...
"Becoming ill" on holiday is a little different if you have a bad immune system or if you are onr of those people who brings their own sheets for the hotel beds, sprays Lysol on everything, and then does that crazy stuff once they get INTO bed, not to mention picking their nose...
i agree with Ira: you'll feel like crap and then you'll get over it.

If you are covered (as either your primary or secondary insurance) by an Anthem Blue Cross program, read about the BlueCard Worldwide that it may include--it isn't really a "card" but a provision that your insurance will cover services from a variety of contracted medical providers in many of the countries tourists most often visit.
