The occasional glass of ice cold skim milk.
Sleep (cause I don't know enough to force myself to get enough)
Bathtubs - not to bathe in, but to have enough room to shave my legs without worrying about tipping over in the shower.
The news.

I really don't miss a thing, except my comfy old sweatpants for lolling around my room. They're too bulky to pack in my carry-on, so they get sacrificed.

I've never been gone more than three weeks at a time. I seem to go through stages. The first week is exciting but I miss my children. Then after about 8 days, I kind of settle in and don't miss home at all and that feeling stays until I leave for home.

I would love to be able to take a job in Europe for 2 years - it would be over in a blink and I would be back in the US before I knew it.
I miss my cats. I'm always thrilled when we stay somewhere that has a cat or 2 to 'borrow'.

NY 1 'cause it's so nice just to turn on the TV and know exactly what the temperature is outside.

I miss buffet restaurants. It's nice to sample foods before deciding what you want to fill yourself with.

First I miss diet 7-up. And of course I miss my kitties. My husband is a Jack and coke Drinkier, so he has difficulty finding ice! But the fois gras, the cheese plates, the wonderful scenery, ruins etc. easily make up for lack of ice of 7up! Can't wait till the first week of June when we go back to France and Spain for a month!

Hey Burta and Melissa, there's several of us on this thread! Maybe we should try for a kamaaina get together(?) Scigirl, are you out there too?

But I digress. I always miss our dog, and Hawaii's pristine air and water.

I miss:

1) My family.
2) Relatively cheap gasoline.
3) The lack of a V.A.T.
4) Adequate electricity in the house.
5) House without a septic tank.
6) Freshest produce.
7) Large American washers that do the laundry in a half hr.
8) Having a dryer at all.
9) Automatic cars.
10) Salsa.
11) Escalators in the subways that WORK.
12) Sidewalks without doggie landmines.
13) No dogs allowed in restaurants.
14) American pillows.
15) Washcloths in hotel rooms
16) Real water pressure in the shower.
17) Small house keys.
18) Getting ice in my drink without asking.
19) Air conditioning.
20) Automatic ice makers.
21) The lower tax rate in the US.
22) Sales all the time.
23) American holidays.
24) Cheap internet connections.
25) More than one telephone line in the house.
26) Steak (It ain't the same in Europe--even before mad cow and F&M).
27) My bed.
28) My house.

Stay home? Of course not.

There are things about Europe that I miss when I am at home, but, if I thought that overall Europe was a better place to live than the US, I'd move there. I prefer the US and that is why I live here.

I do get tired, however, of people who insist that everything is better in Europe. The fact is, that is not true. There are good things both ways. And, that is why I visit Europe frequently but do not live there.

So, xxx, take your views--no, I won't say it.

NudnikFGA

Kalena, Burta is my sister and we've been to Europe 3x together! I took my first trip when they had the $299 round trip special, and at that time had *choke* Hawaii people in London. I missed out on this last $169 special, but I guess there were just as many in Paris for that one!

But, I digress. Next time you plan to go, post um!

You read way more into what I said. In fact, being in Europe reminds me of the reasons I am glad to be an American. However, you listed so many things that maybe I read more into what you were saying. Okay?
